General Objective

Make use of the common maritime cultural heritage of the South Baltic area for identity building, tourism  and economic development of adjacent cities and regions, making them excellent cultural destinations to be recognized and visible on international markets.

Short description

The project aims to use and enhance the common maritime cultural heritage that units the cities and regions of the South Baltic area.Adjacent cities and regions shall become excellent tourism destinations based on common heritage. Maritime museums and festivals have the potential to act as ambassadors presenting the common maritime cultural heritage (traditional shipbuilding and sailing vessels, historic trade relations, fishery, navigation etc.). The project idea is to make use of this potential by a more professional target-group orientation, promotion and cross-border cooperation.  Development of maritime festivals, better use of floating heritage and establishment of a professional museum network of the South Baltic shall contribute to creation of the positive image. The network of “sailing cities and regions” in the South Baltic will be enlarged and common branding towards international markets will be enhanced.

The project aims to develop specific tourism products related to maritime themes as well as to enhance professionalism of welcoming foreign tourists from bordering countries. A joint exhibition will be organized on common maritime cultural heritage and cross-marketing campaigns in order to address cross-border target groups and increase the number of tourist flows.
